On behalf of the Board and Members of PrintMatters, and in conjunction with Nicole Longnecker Gallery, I am happy to present NEXT 2017. The exhibition will run from May 20 - July 1, 2017. Opening reception will be on May 20, from 5-8pm at the Nicole Longnecker Gallery, 2625 Colquitt St., Houston, TX 77098.

NEXT 2017 is our juried contemporary print biennial held during PrintHouston. We asked for and received applications from artists hailing from North America (Canada, Mexico and the United States). These submissions contained innovative and challenging works that transcended both process and material to portray printmaking as a versatile and adaptable medium for contemporary artists. Thank you to everyone who shared their creative endeavors with us through their applications and congratulations to those selected for the exhibition.

I especially thank our juror for NEXT 2017, Nancy Palmeri, Professor, MFA Director and Assistant Chairperson of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Arlington. We at PrintMatters are thrilled with her selections and are also honored that she agreed to jury this year’s exhibition.

PrintMatters is a member based, non-profit, 501(C)(3) arts organization based in Houston, Texas. In alignment with our mission, PrintHouston is our biennial summer-long celebration of original prints, the artists who create them, and the people who collect them. PrintMatters works with galleries, museums, non-profit and alternative art spaces, as well as local Colleges and Universities to create the PrintHouston calendar of exhibits, lectures, special events, demonstrations and workshops that bring together the best in contemporary and traditional printmaking today.

PrintMatters hopes that you enjoy this collection of innovative and captivating art from NEXT 2017.
