Lucinda Cobley

Each series of singular relief prints including Intervals, Still, Awakening, Steep, and Submerged assume to be subtle reminders of the transience of existence. Ink is applied either by brayer or brush to cut and broken slats of thin wood and cut fabric and then printed through a press or by hand using a baren onto translucent layers of polyester film and Japanese papers. When closely observed the layers reveal fabric textures, wood grain, along with splintered, gouged and painted surfaces. Together the overlapping forms are re-ordered and coalesce into meditative scapes of detritus.
