I approach each new body of work as a journey. Sometimes I know where I am going; often I am lost; once-in-a-while I take a detour. While I wander, I wonder.
My recent work has been influenced by my visits to various caves, national parks, and the hoodoos of New Mexico. I am fascinated by the idea that while we walk atop the earth, secret chambers are forming beneath our feet; that the underground dark is defined by the light, and that the shadows must negotiate the spaces between the two. I think about scale and perspective; perception and reality‑—much like Plato’s prisoners chained to the Cave’s walls.
I like to push my printmaking in new directions while honoring the traditions of the past. I often work with translucent materials that I can layer, cut, and rearrange. My greatest wish as an artist is to get people to love printmaking as much as I do. I hope my work will play a part in that effort.
